At the LeChateau Monttebello Telecommunications Seminar
in 1973, there was an engineer from the British Post Office who described to us a cable used for communications in the Antartic.
It was found to be in good working order, in 1959 but was used by Scott 48 years earlier and perhaps was actually layed in 1837.
The dryness of the cold helped preserve it.
