BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A Metro-East jury has deadlocked on whether a man who raped, murdered and mutilated a woman nearly 50 years ago remains so dangerous he should be committee.
Roger Burns kidnapped the woman from a Belleville coin laundry and killed her in 1965. Four months later he kidnapped another woman, though she escaped.
Burns, now 70 years old, pleaded guilty, served his sentence and was paroled in 2008.
