WIRING Houses for Telephones

Vern has his certain installation memories in the 1960's.

In the new subdivision on Sheffield Place, Lambertville, Michigan, Vern was wiring a new house where one of the phones needed to be located on kitchen counter/bar on the back wall of the house.  He took his 24 inch drill bit and was making a hole to enter inside the cupboard below the counter. The bit, in a hand drill, took a lot of resistance for a long time. OOOPS! The bit was making a 1/4 inch gouge across the front of the counter.

When wiring a a house, an installer really needs to know how houses are constructed.  In another house, Vern needed to install a phone on an interior wall. In the attic he found a two-by four which he thought was the top of the wall. He drilled down, again with his 24 inch drill, when a loud scream came from below. He had drilled through the ceiling over the dining room table, 16 inches from the wall.
