Kenny and Marjorie Callstrom built and opened
the motel in 1967 and was so named
because of then-new Interstate 40.
Leaving Adrian at 7a.m. we continued west, on ROUTE 66, dropping down into New Mexico.
At 10:30 we gased up in Albuquerque.
After driving down throuh the Petrified road we stopped
for a few hours to explore the Petrified Museum. What
a wonderful field display they had.
At 2 p.m. we entered the Painted Desert
Visitor Center where we took a photo, and
got information about the Petrified Forest.
Around 7 p.m.; as headed toward Holbrook,
our left rear tire blew.
MY WINTER TIRES DIDN' LIKE THE DESERT HEAT.
I put our spare tire on. In town i bought two new ones.
We then chrcked into a motel.
