The city of DuQuoin shares the same history as the little town of Tamaroa, 8 miles north. Their namesake was Jean Baptiste Du Quoin, the son of a Frenchman and a Tamaroa Indian woman. He was made chief of the Tamaroa Indians in 1767. DuQuoin History
